COVID-19 Response

30 April in UCB Education by joanna

Our project:

Every child should have access to basic health and well-being resources, services and education. Without proper hygiene and sanitation, communities are more vulnerable to disease and poor health, with limited capacity to preserve their livelihoods and the safety of their families. The 2020 Corona Virus presents an unprecedented threat to developing nations like Indonesia. Having no access to fresh water, or basic hygiene bathroom facilities, students of SdEnamManukaya Primary School in Bali have no protection against the spread or infection of CV-19. We are doing our part to change this.

To protect these children we are raising funds to support the 188 students of students of SdEnamManukaya Primary School. Money raised will help create a new, hygienic, school bathroom and provide both teachers and students front line defence against this virus. As you can see from the pictures below, the current bathroom is not safe, functional or hygienic.

Building a new bathroom facility will help increase sanitation awareness and practices whilst promoting personal hygiene and safe menstrual management which will, in turn, will impact the livelihood of these children by ensuring dignity and keeping them in school for longer.

Meet the project team:

This campaign is run by UCB, an Indonesian social enterprise founded in 2014 that works to support SdEnamManukaya Primary School and the well-being of its students and teachers. UCB interns Stephanie, Emily and Caitlin have developed this campaign to bridge theory and practice and construct a framework for successful campaigning in a global pandemic. We are extremely passionate about global change and plan to bring about this change by diligently focusing on three interconnecting goals: sanitation, female well-being and community empowerment. This threefold strategy will ensure this project meets the aims of the Sustainable Development Goals and provides culturally appropriate solutions to leading health problems.

UCB’s co-founders are Australian and Balinese, combining 10+ years of strategic marketing experience with true local knowledge and community connections to create a positive social and environmental impact for the Tampaksiring community. In partnering with SdEnamManukaya we can provide the necessary support through our expertise and give a voice to those who need our help. The most important aspect about UCB is that our social enterprise and its partnerships are our family; we respect and care for them enormously.

How you can help:

COVID-19 has shown us that we cannot take the simple things for granted. Fresh running water and soap to wash our hands, toilets, showers and supplies to keep families hygienic are absolutely crucial to a healthy future. You can help us make a positive and sustainable impact in the lives of these children and the Tampaksiring community by donating to our cause today and selecting a reward from the list on the right. Each donation makes a vital contribution to our cause and will provide these children with a healthy future. Please give generously!

Use Of Funds

$5,000 TIPPING POINT GOAL

All funds raised will go towards building a new school bathroom and providing health and hygiene education, including menstrual hygiene management and support for students at SdEnamManukaya primary school, Indonesia.$10,000 STRETCH GOAL

Additional money raised will go towards creating a new school curriculum that addresses health and hygiene through education of sanitation, menstruation and puberty so that children are better equipped to live healthy lives.
